Tegucigalpa has a natural and historical recreational space in Cerro Juana Lainez, a symbol of the identity of all the capital's inhabitants.
According to historical documents, the name of the hill comes from Juana Lainez, a neighbor of the city of Tegucigalpa, wife of Mr. Sebastian Rodriguez, miner and metal hauler. By tradition, the hill acquired the name of its owner, where she kept a cattle and crops farm. Over time, these lands changed owners until in 1910 the hill was acquired by the State of Honduras.
Trails: Cerro Juana Lainez Park has a network of trails that are accessible to the general public. It consists of pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths and restricted capacity for service vehicles and people with disabilities.
Flora and Fauna: The flora and fauna of the park are treasures that can be appreciated by visitors to this historic place, which is also one of the lungs of the capital.
The park has an important vegetation of 342 species of plants and trees.
